The Megalithic Phenomenon and the Architecture of Anxiety

We are going to be looking at the megalithic phenomenon from southwestern Europe through to the Middle East. Rather than trying to establish a chronological trail, we will be looking at why the Mesolithic and Neolithic people expended so much energy into building dolmens, passage graves and stone circles. We will find that, when the society is stressed, people tended to resort to monumental building in stone. This project tears up the map showing a chronological spread of megaliths and proves that the megalithic phenomenon occurred spontaneously at different times in different places.
